Syayamvar was the practice followed in royal families of India which enabled a princess to choose her own husband. All the kings n princes' would assemble in the palace and the princess would go around with a garland in her hand. The person she deemed right, she would pur the garland around his neck and they would be wed. Now i need to know the origin of this practice. Was this started during the Ancient Period (i.e. the Vedic Period) or in the Medieval Period (period of the Mughal rule)?
