Can you write on a Tie Dye shirt with sharpie?

I went to my friends' VBS and we made tie dye shirts and Saturday the whole church is going bowling at our local bowling alley and everyone's wearing their shirts and I want people to sign mine and I was wondering if you could write on them with sharpie or another type of permanent marker..
